I am Dr. Rosalinda Ruiz Scarfuto and founder of Re-Bound. I have been a multimedia artist and poet for the past 3 decades as well as an educator and past executive director of an arts NGO. Re-Bound was created to document my PhD (2018) in studio art research and now has been widened to encompass workshops, installations and a network of artists. The audience participation in art installations was an added value to the original PhD project and served to extend the meaning of “public art.” Temporary, organic art installations that combine fixed objects with audience participation were an exciting outcome to watch how they played out. See my blog in this website for further information. The thesis is registered with the British Library. My book, The Forest Flaneur (October 2019), available as an ebook via Amazon gives details to the methodology derived in the research thesis.

Currently, I am a consultant and university adjunct professor in education. My research into the 3D poetic canvas and the “Forest Flaneur”culminated into temporary installations with public interactions as well as fixed sculptures inspired by landscapes. It delved into the creative process based on tactile perception and walking poetic landscapes, extending philosophers Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology of Perception and Maria Zambrano’s Poetic Reason. The new “Forest Flaneur” methodology developed my PhD project was one of the exciting outcomes my research.

My work is based on re-engaging the artist with Nature to be able to share those experiences with the audience in hope that our empathy quotient will not be diminished with each generation, leading us to more suffering and/or planetary extinction. My artwork is deeply rooted in how to re-engage with Nature, given the alienation arising among humans themselves, Nature and Art, partially due to high-tech composed environments.

The creative process is my main research for new poetry, replaying on the original poetry and translating it into a visual art as homage to the poets and their inspiring landscapes. My process is based on three phases I call “re-play”: 1) walking {visual and tactile}, 2) transfer of the palette of colours on canvas and 3) creating a sculpture with fragments of poetry and colours. The first series is dedicated to four poets linked by their cultural heritage as walking poets.

This process invites the profound essence of Nature to settle into my consciousness and then create unlike landscape painting in situ. My main research is experimenting with the tactile perception, drawing on the origins from Indigenous rock artists.  Pigments are sometimes combinations of organic substances gathered on the walks, or soils from the land of the poet.  The materials for the sculpture depend on each poet and their inspiring landscapes.

I invite you to take a journey through the art, walks, poetry and sculpture to explore how I am carrying on with this project.  (Click on the following titles below to access pages).
